390 and 400 question

i've got a friend who's got a 70 highboy w/a 390 but the trans won't work unless it's warmed up. i've got a 2wd c6 that is supposed to be good and was bolted to a 400. what's the odds of it bolting to the 390? i know there's other work to be done but my only question concerns the bellhousing bolting to the 390.

390 is a FE engine not a BB and even so it's said a 460 can bolt to a 400 trans so that don't work with the BB fact. please don't post unless you sure.

well if its any consulation the guts of your trans can swaped to the other. I have done it a few time. the majority of the time a problem like you discribed is a bad front pump. you could just have a front pump put in and go from there.
