he's a republican posing as a libertarian. From what I've heard, as a libertarian he's supposed to be going after a bunch of legislation he put into place as a republican. weird deal.

Here's his voting record according to "on the issues"...

http://www.ontheissues.org/GA/Bob_Barr.htm

He seems more of a conservative than a republican (yes there is a difference). I don't think it's a big stretch for him to run as a Libertarian.

I'd like to see him get 15% in the polls so he's included in the debates, that would make things interesting.

What's the legislation that he wants to go after?

I'm drawing a blank...I heard it on Common Sense with Dan Carlin. He's seems to be a proponent of the libertarian party but was criticizing the hell out of them for how they run candidates and the campaign.

Common Sense with Dan Carlin - Show 126 - The Way You Play The Game

you can listen to the show i'm talking about:

http://search.everyzing.com/viewMedi...annel&filter=1

the rant about the libertarian party starts about 33 minutes in.

the site's down right now, i'll try to find that legislation.

here's an example:

http://endiana.blogspot.com/2008/05/...ys-object.html

After re-listening to the podcast Bob Barr is :

Newt Gingrich Republican
Went after Clinton in sex scandal
proponent of the "drug war" (made this one of his major issues)

apparently it didn't list the legislation, that's probably why I didn't remember specific examples...;)

[I]"Regardless of whether one supports or opposes same sex marriage, the decision to recognize such unions or not ought to be a power each state exercises on its own, rather than imposition of a one-size-fits-all mandate by the federal government (as would be required by a Federal Marriage Amendment which has been previously proposed and considered by the Congress). The decision today by the Supreme Court of California properly reflects this fundamental principle of federalism on which our nation was founded.

"Indeed, the primary reason for which I authored the Defense of Marriage Act in 1996 was to ensure that each state remained free to determine for its citizens the basis on which marriage would be recognized within its borders, and not be forced to adopt a definition of marriage contrary to its views by another state. The decision in California is an illustration of how this principle of states' powers should work."/
[I]

Sorry, but I have to agree with his statement on this. I support equal treatment under the law for gay marriage but it should be left to the states to decide these issues not the federal government.

The war on drugs thing doesn't make him look good does it?

http://stopthedrugwar.org/chronicle/...barr_joins_mpp

I am more concerned that he was CIA and that he is now lobbying for the ACLU.

yes, the war on drugs should have been like a killer for him in being the libertarian nominee. We don't even have a good libertarian to vote for...

The more I hear about Bob Barr the less I like him. To bad to since I was kinda hoping that both McCain and Obama would have the melt down they both seem capable of and maybe a third party would have a chance at a good showing.

I agree, and this troubles me. I have absolutely no one to vote for

well, you could vote libertarian without actually risking anything, Bob Barr won't win. And you will help strengthen the party. The problem is, do you want to strengthen a party that would nominate Bob Barr? Probably not. They have some problems they need to work out first.

X2.

With Bob, the Libertarian Party may have gotten the fiscally conservative side right, but they forgot about the socially liberal part. He's not a Libertarian he is a conservative running as a Libertarian because conservative's no longer have a party. Why did the L.P. give him the nomination???

If they ever do get it together I think that we could have a real three party race. Not this year, too bad.
