At 5pm it was sunny at our house. We had to pick up her daughter and saw the clouds but thought nothing of it... Not two blocks north of the house, trees were falling in front and behind us. Power cables snapping and shooting sparks all over the car... finally through some sort of miracle made it to Elizabeth lake road and there was a tree blocking 2 lanes... power out everywhere... Mr Bigs sign was relocated to the rear of the roof. Same scenario all the way to Crescent Lake and Tubbs where we picked up the lil one. On the way back we went by the mall to kill some time since we had no power... stopped and helped clear the branches from telegraph by the court house as it was completely blocked. When we got back to the neighborhood it was a maze to get home as we had to find streets that werent blocked by huge fallen trees. Our strret had several uprooted trees but no real damage to any homes... the top half of a tree fell on my 79 Ford messing it up a lil bit... and we have been out of power since yesterday. I agree on the generator as we will most likely be losing alot of frozen goods.

This is what we ended up with after the storm yesterday afternoon in Lansing. One complete cooling tower was leveled and a second set was severely damaged.

Default Lansing storm damage

Some pictures of some of the damage in my neighborhood in south Lansing, all within a couple of blocks of my house -

Next door neighbor almost had his trailer crushed when the top snapped off of a huge whitepine...

The park across the street from my house -

I have all of my inspectors out in the area between 23 and 94 and 696 and 59 inspecting all of our house. suprisingly out of 8500 vacant hud properties the only reports i have so far are downed trees, power lines, broken windows, basement flooding. No reports of serious structure damage yet.

One of the local school principals mentioned that because there is a question of whether or not a tornado actually touched down, FEMA is not going to help. Without FEMA money the power companies aren't going to pay the overtime it takes to get power running again. This guy said he was planning on getting the power back at his school on Thursday. Sucks for those without power, that's for sure.

8500 vacant hud properties? what are these? are these homes HUD gets when people abandon them? I didn't think they'd have so many homes in the area.

Your local school principal is obviously an idiot and should not make statements that he is clueless about.
