Before you criticize the government, do you ever stop to wonder "Hmmm....why exactly is it illegal to sell raw milk in Michigan?" Keep in mind....if you produce your own milk, you can drink it raw all you want! You just can't sell it!

Milk is pasteurized to kill bacteria and make it safer. Particularly TB. Did you know that Michigan was the FIRST state in the nation to require by law that all milk sold commercially had to be pasteurized?

Selling "cow shares" is just the latest way that some are getting around the ban on selling raw milk. But that won't last long!

It's ironic that when the government tries to protect people from unsafe food, situations, etc......everybody bitches! But....when something happens and people get hurt or die.....everybody bitches about "why doesn't the government do something about this?"

Don't get me wrong.....I'm not saying that the gov't should be up in all of our business. But sometimes, things that might not be clear to you at first glance (i.e. why it's illegal to sell raw milk) make perfect sense when you know the FACTS and the SCIENCE behind it.

Of course, everyone is entitled to their opinions. This is just mine.
works for me

I don't disagree with your logic but I disagree that "the FACTS and SCIENCE behind it" support pasturizing milk to make it safer. The cure is worse than the disease in this case. If you go to the real milk link I posted earlier and read their rebuttal to the FDA you'll see what I mean.

Also I am not one of those people who cry for the government to "do something" about anything except get out of the way. Although you are right that most people want the gov't to take care of them, that's a big part of the problem in this country if you ask me.

So....you're questioning the facts and science based on something that you read on the internet??? Of course...if it's on the internet, it's got to be true!

Do you actually know anything about pasteurization? What it does? How it's done? How about bacteria....do you know how it works in your body?

I'm not going to argue about this. Drink your raw milk all you want! But don't feel sorry (or flame the government) when some ass-hat gets pinched by Johnny Law when he does something that he KNOWS is illegal! Stupidity cannot be blamed on the government. Perhaps it's time to place the blame where it belongs: On the lawbreaker!

You are already arguing about this and you started it, I can't let you walk away now. Besides I like to think of it as a discussion not an argument.

I know a lot more than you think, including things about bacteria, pasteurization and what it does and doesn't do to milk. It isn't based on things I read on the internet. Most of what I know is based on books I read. Books that were written based on research. Research that was backed by large amounts of data from many sources. Still, the link is a great summary and has valuable information, dispite your bashing of all things on the internet. Did you even read it?

I don't feel sorry for anyone but i will flame the government everytime they are wrong as should you, but Your missing the point... This was civil disobedience, he knew he would "get pinched". He acted out against a law that he finds unjust. This is guy is a real patriot.

Go make friends with the Amish.

Give them a ride to town or let them use the phone. When they want to give you gas money ask them if they would mind parting with a gallon or two straight from the cow.

Personally, I think it is a ploy for the government to tax the small farmer for one more way to get their greedy hands into someone's pocket! By requiring pastuerization, the small farmer now does not have the equipment to legally sell to the public. Thus he must now sell to a milk buyer who is taxed for transport and sales as is the farmer's payment ... see the pattern? Whereas if Joe farmer sells to the public, he only pays one tax vs. the 5 or 6 the govt gets during the whole "legal process".

And another thing ... milk was not pasteurized for YEARS until about the 50-60's. That's funny ... I'm here and your here, so our parents and grandparents seemed to survive that nasty bacteria-ridden raw milk just fine. I also find it a bit coincidental that we have so many lactose-intolerant and environmental-allergies now than before. Perhaps we are sterilizing our food too much and by eliminating most of the bacteria that exists, we keep the immune system in our body low and unable to fight it. As gross as it sounds, slight exposure to bacteria and viruses is necessary for a healthy immunity system! Have you ever gotten a flu shot? ... case in point!

That coupled with the preservatives and other man-made chemicals to make the milk stay fresher longer that are based on nitrates or formaldehydes are KNOWN causes of cancer, autism and ADHD. No thanks! I'll take my food grass-fed and in raw form as much as possible. You feel free to shop at Meijer and eat your plastic cheeses and dairy and nitrate-ridden meats so you can live to the ripe old age of 60! LOL I'll just stick to the teachings of Weston A. Price and eat a NATURAL balanced diet like my ancestors did in the hopes I can be like my great-grandmother who is 92, runs a dairy farm, cooks for 10 people a day (workers) and manages to clean a 6000 sq. ft. house and has drank raw milk, natural beef from livestock grown on the farm and homegrown veggies all her life.

We are not here jamming raw milk down your throat, so please don't jam your idealistic, right-and-wrong, obey the government beliefs down mine. Even though our government is completely trustworthy and ALWAYS keeps our best interests in mind ... LMFAO!!!
