Question Electronic Quadrajet

I got a carb of from a mid 80's chevy truck with a 350 that was removed last week. I would like to use it on my amc 360. Can/will this carb. work without the electronics attached?

thanks

they started the TBI on the trucks in 87 just FYI. 86 and down were carbed and used the electronic q-jet. no you can't run it without the electronics as it will run very poorly.

need the computer and wiring from any vehicle that had that carb...you will also need a computer controlled big cap HEI. not the remote coil version used in 87 and later apps.

If it is a Q-jet and it has a big blue plug in the top with some wires in it, it will run ok. The plug part is a fuel metering solinoid that the ECM used to regulate regulate fuel mixture based on oxygen sensor readings. This system worked poorly at best for mixture control. You can run that carb on a stock motor without any problems. You probably have a big obnoxious throttle position sensor on that thing too, take it off and throw it away.

I wouldn't expect too much from this carb. I would just use it until a non polution Q-jet comes your way or you find something different.

Thanks guys,

Another question, I have a quadrajet that was not working well the last time someone tried to run it, so could I use parts from the older one to eliminate the electronic metering control???

No. Your best move is to rebuild the older unit. Q-jets are decent performance carbs, it will be worth your time.
