There's about 4 houses for sale on my block in Berkley going for roughly 150,000. I love living in Berkley, kind of has the small town feel but in a metro area. Plus, you'll only be 3 miles from Madison Heights. I would say check out Madison Heights but the property taxes are quite a bit more then Berkley's.

theres a cheap REPO in Rochester on Maywood. I think it like 160kish. Nice little brick house with an oversized two car garage. I would check REPO's if I were you.

you need to drive around all of the areas you want to look at houses in, WALK through the neighbor hoods, go to local stores and check out the demographic. if you are ok with it then there you go.

sterling heights area is probably your best bet in that price range.....

To stay in you budget Berkley, Royal Oak, Madison Heights, Sterling Heights, Warren are your best bets. You get futhur north into troy or west towards birmingham or the hills and you are getting into "i have more money than god" area.
