It sucks when you have to swipe your card twice at the pump, just to fill up a tank (because of the $limits per transaction).

no, the reason they don't work is boycotting a single company has no impact on the global price of crude. Do you honestly think that gas for Shell, BP, etc.. comes out of different storage tanks to the stations?

Secondly, don't blame the oil companies. They're not responsible for the price going this high. Don't blame OPEC either. The guy from Opec came on and said they are meeting capacity pumping what they are and there's no reason a barrel should be over $60 right now. The reason the price has gone so high is the market assholes that have driven futures prices up to insane levels. Yes, this results in more profits for the oil companies and Opec, but they're not at fault for it rising so high.

$5.00/gallon and I'd begin thinking about reducing my driving.
As CC has observed, you now see fewer and fewer kids driving around and fewer and fewer beaters.
I am enjoying the reduced traffic.

Uh yea i do. We are by far their biggest consumer. If we hurt them then of course they will give in. They don't have to be at fault. It's simple consumer economics. We choose not to by their shit, they begin to hurt. They could be in the right but the point is, a free market is driven by the consumer, not the producer.

I commute 200 miles a day.... When I took the job, gas was less than $2.00 a gallon and I was driving a cherokee. When it soared to mid-upper 2's I sold the cherokee for a focus. I've been trying to sell my house for 2 years, we're priced on the low end of out market but there have only been 2 houses sold like ours over the last year... Now that Gas is well over $3 I've picked up a car pool buddy for a few days a week. If my house doesn't sell and gas goes over $4.00, I'll prolly have to start looking for a new job...
