I use it mostly while wheeling with other people. It's nice to be able to talk to the other vehicles. I have tried to run it while traveling, and you are 100% correct about the number of a-holes. I can't even leave it on with my kid in the car because some jerk keeps dropping f-bombs.

Thats when amps come in handy and you shut down the whole band :tonka:

My dad used to announce that he would put a brick on the mic and walk away if he heard one more cuss word. This was in the 80's/90's before cell phones were cheap, everyone in our family had a mobile, and everyone had a base. We used them instead of the telephone for short unimportant calls to save additional money.

JEEPR - The 2M amp will not work for the CB (11M) frequency. The CB signal will be obsorbed by the amps input filter (i.e. They are not compatible). The 2M amp will amplify 2M signals only, not CB. You would bet more output from your 5W CB. Think about it this way:

You could use a linear amp, as others have stated. The linear amp will amplify any/most incoming/signal frequencies. I believe linear amps are illegal and the FCC will fine you...if you are caught. This is unlikely unless you transmit from home and mess up your neighbor's TV reception. With enough power, you can even mess with their cable reception.

I'll take the 2M amp off your hands though. PM me.

I'm going to Dayton next month...Might be able to find a linear amp for ya!!!

I wouldn't mess with it even if it would work! Just take your CB to a good shop and they can tune it for better transmission in and out. I could get about 15 miles on mine after a tune up with a wilson magnet mount antenna! that's plenty for wheeling! I don't even use the CB in the semi because I can't stand all the assholes on there, so I just leave it off! Though they are handy if you run into heavy traffic due to an accident so you know which lane to be in ahead of time.

JEEPR, Something to contemplate:

We buy 4WD because we all want to go where no man has gone before, (pardon the pun), we upgrade our diffs to lockers, we get the most agressive off-road tires money can buy, we get a winch with the best Amsteel rope, rocker sliders, big tube bumpers, lift kits, off-road lights, and a GPS system and then we buy a communication system (i.e CB) that is not much better than two dixie cups and a string for communication!
CB's are fine for the few hundred feet you'll be apart on the trail however,
more and more users are getting their ham radio license because amatuer radio is a much better form of communication when off road and clearer sounding. (think of the difference between AM -vs- FM radio) It works when/where cell phones do not. You can make emergency 911 phone calls.
You can also leave the radio on while kids are present and not cringe when someone starts to talk.
Communication distances range from 20-30 miles person to person to over 100's of miles using linked repeaters.
Mobile Ham Radios can be had for less than $150 and a simple license test cost <$15 and is good for 10 years and renewable without retaking a test.
PM or e-mail if you'd like more information
