From the same story:

Quote:
Turley said a more serious constitutional question surrounds U.S. Sen. John McCain's presidential candidacy. McCain was born on a military base in the Panama Canal Zone, which might violate the natural-born citizen requirement.

If Mcain was born on a US military base isn't that technically US soil Any Ways? I think it would be funny if the guy won his case.

from what I recall, embassies are considered soveriegn soil to the visiting country. not so sure about military bases, I know some bases were/are "leased" - regardless I'm sure this far along that it's not going to preclude the geezer from taking office should he win.

On a separate note, I'm pretty sure that we could solve a lot of the world's problems via McCain. For example, he could single handedly solve the whole creation/religion thing - after all I'm pretty sure he was around when Jesus walked the lands, he may have had a pet triceratops as well...

Military Bases on Foriegn soil are US soveriegn soil. US Military bases in a foriegn country, usually the property the base is on is purchased from that country or leased for a specific amount of time. The lease is renewable or is considered an open end lease. Which means the US can either renew it or abandon the base once the lease is up.

There for Mccain is elgible to run for presidency because he was born on US soil in a round about way.

This law suit will just waste my tax money in the Supreme Court.

I think some people missed the point of my post.
Here you have someone getting all excited because Clinton may not be eligible due to a technicality. In the same article, it points out another questioned technicality about McCain. But this is not pointed out by the OP when starting this thread, and since most on this site do not bother to read a linked article, I thought I would point it out.

It did make me think though, growing up, learning in school and all, I was always under the impression that it was implied that candidates would be born within the borders of the 50 states. I am not the only one since there was a resolution introduced in the senate to confirm he is natural born. The argument was that the constitution did not define what we now consider a natural born citizen.

Here is the State Department stance on Citizenship: http://www.state.gov/documents/organization/86755.pdf

Personally, I never had a question as to McCains eligibility. And the BS I was referring to was the typical political spin we see from both sides. They all latch onto any tiny possible flaw and try to turn it into a world ending catastrophe.

No credible sources that I can find, but it has taken on a life of it's own.

supposed quote: Stop throwing the Constitution in my face. Itís just a goddamned piece of paper!
When I was in the Smithsonian a few years ago i was amazed by the number of books on sale about "Bushisms". I glanced through a few of them, and considering the sometimes total lack of common sense and/or awareness of surroundings, I would not be completely surprised if this were an actual quote. We may never know though. The original writer, Doug Thompson, refuses to name sources for the quote as they are supposedly very close to the President, or at least his office staff. Maybe when the internal records and recordings are released (i.e. Richard Nixonesque) we may find the rest of the story. But anything damaging or electrifying would be information released too late anyway.

although the credibilty may be questionable, as PeteC said "anything damaging or electrifying would be information released too late anyway.". I would be one to believe that the administration would put a stop any possibility of public verification of a statement such as this.
