V8 S-10 towing capacity

what do you think is the max i can tow with my truck? factory rated at 5000 lbs. i need to be able to tow 6000. doable? or dangerous? if it's dangerous is there anything i can do to make it doable? planning on towing a S-10 blazer and then my camaro. taking the blazer to jersey then coming back with my camaro. engines got plenty of power, have heavy duty brakes and cooling system, class 3 reciever hitch. i plan on adding stiffer springs to the rear end from a 1/2 ton cuz mine sag with a 600 lb quad in the bed.

Trailer brakes and a weight-distributing hitch.

It's not so much the engine and the cooling that limits your towing ability, it's the frame, rear end, rear suspension, and how heavy the truck is. I can tell you that 6000lbs will probably pull an S10 around like a toy, should you get into a windy area or run into a sway problem.

Now that's not to say that if you take it easy, get a weight distributing hitch, sway control, a trailer with brakes on it, and keep a real close eye on everything that it CAN'T be done... I just wouldn't want to be on the road anywhere near you.

Good luck.
