So lemme get this straight, both his dog and yours were in the road when this happened??

If that's the case, I'd pay the 80 bucks, tell him no more from you (as you've already forked out close to a grand) and if he bitches remind him that he is equally at fault considering his dog was out of his yard and not in his control - if he doesn't like it, tell him to control his dog a little better next time and leave it at that......

I had a similar situation except my dog was chained in our yard. The neighbors dog repeatedly trespassed. One fine afternoon Sammy (my 65lb setter) was laying on the walk with about 10 feet of slack in his chain. The neighbors high dollar hunting dog came with in striking distance and barked fiercly for the last time. Sammy launched bit him in ass 60 stitches and hundreds of dollars of after hours vet bill later lobo was wearing a cone so he couldnt lick it! Myt neighbor had the gall to ask what I was gonna do about it. He was given the choice: A)keep his dog out of my yard or B) Keep his dog out of my yard or I'll catch him chain him and call animal control.

Your neighbor is lucky you met him more than half way. Especially when they were equally negligant.

Or, you could always take all the valve cores out of their tires.

I deffinatly would have paid for half and no more. IMO, thats what you get for buying stupid ass dogs that bark at anything, and not keep them in your yard. My dog only fights back after he is pushed so far. However my brothers 90lb lab/golden/hound mix knows hes big. He isnt aggressive, but he dosent deal with bs either.

As for the $80, write a check, walk over and as you hand it to him, rip it in half. You keep handing him money and he is going to keep looking to dig it out of your pocket. You have already done more than most people would have, especially since the law is on your side.

Where i sit financally $80 bucks is a lot...

If you can afford it and with hopefully the understanding that you've done enough. I would hate to see the 30-year old son do anything to your property or possesions that could cost you more in the long run.

just my .02 cents

if you can, pay the 80 and be done with it. however be clear that you are done paying for any expenses, and if you have to, get it in writing.
you are clearly more of a man than me for paying the bills so far, i would have paid half the expenses and if he asked for more, i would have told him to shove his head in a microwave because he is equally at fault.
and as far as the idiot son, all i can say is if i saw him messing with my vehicles or house he would be at the dentist the next day.

Buy a video cam to record anything that happens in front of your house. Sounds like you have some real WT across from you. You should have paid for 1/2 of the initial vet bill, then tell him to screw off since he was 1/2 at fault.

I would pay it and make it "go away" personally. You have a pit and unfortunately they are the major targets of BSL (breed specific legislation). I'm not sure where you are in Ohio, but many communities including Cincinnati, Sandusky and Cleveland are enacting (or discussing enacting) big time laws regarding pits (or anything looking like one). When the larger cities do this it trickles down into the neighboring suburbs. In fact, the entire state of Ohio classifies all pits as de facto dangerous dogs.

Here's the list for Ohio which includes a statewide requirement to have a 6' padlocked fence or kennel with enclosed top and $100,000 of liability insurance.

So, basically, you have a pit, your pit bit another dog, and as a pit owner you have a greater responsibility than the average Joe dog owner!

Pay the bill and make sure it doesn't end up on the evening news, "Pitbull mauls Yorkie!"

You already paid enough in my opinion. Plus you told him you were not paying the extra 80 bucks. If you renig now, they will think all they have to do is have the son threaten you if there are problems.

I highly doubt you can be held any more responsible than what you have done. I'm not up on dog bite law, but I don't believe it's criminal if they didn't bite a person. You are liable if your dog causes serious injury to or kills another animal. In Michigan, the injured or killed dog has to be on the owners property or under the owners control. If both dogs were loose and not in control, it would probably be a wipe. There is always civil litigation, and you have already done more than "what a reasonable person" would do in a similar situation. Court is always a crap shoot, but he might have a hard time finding a lawyer to take the case because you never refused to pay for critical care.

But that's just my opinion.. :stan3:

You know, you have been more than accommodating to this guy. You really shouldn't have even gone as far as you did. Both dogs off the leash and out of BOTH owners' control..... both liable. I know its unfortunate that your dog did the biting, but its really the principle of it all. I would say in your shoes I would have paid the bill too, but you have to draw the line somewhere.

Don't pay it. It was unnecessary and the guys is an asshole to boot.

If my dog was loose and went to another dog which was chained up and attacked it then I would pay all expenses, it would be the right and responsible thing to do. With both dogs being loose then I would have only split the expenses in half and pay that. You have been more then generous by paying all of it with the exception of the last $80... Enough is enough...

Now for your choice of pets, a Pit carries a stigma with it due to all the bad press. People think that they are all mean vicious dogs. With that said you should always have him leashed just because of this, you need to protect yourself. Now your neighbor is an idiot for letting a little dog like that run loose knowing that his neighbor has a Pit. Then on top of this the guys dog has been attacked before, what is he thinking???? :stan3:

I suggest offering to pay half, explain that both dogs met halfway and were not in control of the owners at that point. Then explain that you are done with the matter because you have already paid more than your share.

If he refuses, then spend the money toward an outdoor video camera an DVR recorder. Try to mount the camera so it shows the front yard/drive of your house with the neighbor's house in the background. Multiple cameras are even better, especially if one camera can watch another to catch someone tampering with the cameras themselves.

If you can afford it I would just pay it to make it go away...With that being said you have done more than enough considering he was equally at fault.

Your the one who said you made a stupid mistake by letting your dogs out without their collars.

So pay the vet bill then let the old man (50 isn't that old) know that this is what his dog will look like after you singe the hair off and right before you throw it on the grill.

At thats exactly what your going to do the first chance you get.

Then catch the punkass kid alone somewhere punch him in the face a couple times, preferably straight into the nose area as it looks terrible a couple days later, then tell him to look in the mirror tomorrow and to think about how unafraid of him you are and how you enjoy beating people in general.

Chances are you won't have any issues with them anymore.
