Default Brake booster push rod

I've got a Bendix hydroboost unit out of a 77 lincoln with 4 wheel disc's. I need to remove the push rod (the one that hooks to the peddle) so I can lengthen it for my bronco. It spins freely but does not unscrew. Does anybody here know what holds them in?

there's a boot over it right ?? take that boot off and see if theres a ball and socket its spinning in like inner rods on a rack and pinnion.. or a snap ring of some sort..

Ya, it's some kind of ball/socket joint. It's about a 5/16" rod that goes into a small piston with not much room around it for a removable fastner. I've never dealt with rack and pinion so I'm not sure what you mean there.

I haven't tried prying on it yet, that's next. I just don't want to destroy it if there is a trick to removing it.

So you can't get it off the pedal?

No, I can't get it out of the booster end. I think I see a rubber grommet inside the piston that the rod snaps into. I've pryed on it relatively hard but it's still resists. I may have to cut it off and thread it while it's still in there. The rod is so short that it is going to be tricky to hold on to while I thread it.

How much longer do you need it? depending on length just tap a tube and weld it to the exsisting rod and then modify a bolt to work with the pedal or vice versa. Just a thought since i have no idea how to pull it apart

That's the route I'll go, take 2 rods and make one. If I cut the booster rod off long I will have enough room to hold it and thread it then weld an adjuster sleeve on another rod end.

Thanks for the help guys.
