Default AOD Mercon V?

AOD's call for Mercon V trans fluid. I went to Murrays and found regular ATF and it says it covers Mercon fluids. Does anyone know if this means what it sounds like? I just dont wanna dump it in there and see my trans blow. Btw the trans is out of a '90 fullsize bronco.

If it specfically states it meets Mercron V standards, then its fine. Most mercron V is part to full syn is why its around 3bucks a qt.

it meets "mercon" specs, NOT mercon V specs

mercon and dextron 3 are all old standard atf and should not be used for a trans that calls for mercon V

99 cent fluid is not $4.59 a quart fluid. thats what i payed for valvoline a wile back

Unless your trans is not original it should not require Merc V. That fluid was not introduced until the late 90's. Your AOD should use standard DextronIII/Mercon

I have a rebuilt AOD in my truck. The trans guy I have rebuild all of my trans says Dexrom III / Mercon is the best fluid for the AOD.
