can anybody tell me the weekness or strengths of a sterling 10.25 i am getting it with a kingpin dana 60 front for a good price. They are going under my cherokee and i will be running 38 inch tires. Stock 4.0 for now.
i ran one welded under a bronco with 4.30s and 35s i dd it and beat the snot out of it and never broke the shafts. i did however shear the bolts that hold the shaft in. i broke all but 2 somehow
I building one for my Toyota. I went with it because i have basically no money invested in it. Parts are really no more expensive for it, and you can get anything you want ( lockers, truss, disc brakes, ect, ect)
Also, like Bones said, they have good ground clearance....my stock housing is less than a quarter inch longer from axle center line to lowest point than my buddy's 14 bolt that has been cut all to hell with Ballistics shave kit.
As for narrowing it....they use two different length shafts stock....you may be able to retube it to use two of the shorter shafts to narrow it while still using stock parts.....it won't make it a lot narrower but it will some
I would like to narrow it to stock jeep xj axel width. I will end up taking the front axel im getting to my local shop who speciality in dana 60s and have them narrow it and make shafts for it but im able to do the rear just have to take them the shafts and some measurements so they can cut and respline them.
Rather than narrowing axles, you might want to save money by going with wheels with deeper offset.
By the time you buy custom shafts, and especially if you are paying labor on narrowing, you can likely sell your rims and go with something with more backspace.
