i have an 88 cr250 it dosent want to start unless i spray starting fluid or carb clean in it. the choke seems to be working fine and it usually starts first kick after its been running and its warm.any help would appreciated
compression was what i was thinking, i just got to remember to bring a guage home. iam unsure on on the psi spec ive been getting mixed answers. iam going to just guess it should be above 150
Clean the carb, pay close attention to the needle & seat and the pilot jet.
I doubt its compression, normally if they are low they won't idle and they will start fine cold but won't start after they have been warmed up
It could be as simple as a plug, clogged air filter, or a simply adjustment on the carb, You may need to rebuild the carb / but start by taking it off and cleaning everything and all the jets / you may even need new jets ? How old is the gas in it ? Have you ever let the gas sit in it for long time ? Good news for you is that a whole carb rebuild kit is pretty cheap / Ebay !! Im asuming this is a 4 wheeler first year after the cr 250 r or it could be just that ? I forgot exactly when they stopped making the cr 250 r / anyway when you take the carb off check the reeds inside the boot on the head , those wear out too but once again there pretty cheap ! you may have to go to a dealer for those , if you just flip them over, sometimes you can get a couple more years out of them ? If you dont have a manual I suggest you get one ? Once again ebay ? Good luck !!!!!! When it comes to carbs you need a manual !
cr 250r is a motorcycle..i think you are thinking about a trx250 quad or atc 250r 3 wheeler....
raminator as stated it would be best to go through the carb...
compression should be above 120.....
start simple change the plug and make sure the carb is clean as hell
well if the piston and rings are bad you will be able to tell cause i got a 86 lt250r and the compression was low and i could tell just by trying to start it but my reeds were bad to and it coulda been from that but it would only start with starting fluid and when it was warm it would start fine without it .i know for my quad it was a little over 200 for a 80 over piston with rings reeds and gasket kit from c&c sports in brighton
