Just wondering what type / weight oil everyone is using in their Bronco / F150's? I have a 95 f150 4x4 5.8L and usually run 10w30 Penzoil, but wanting to switch to Motorcraft 5w30 synthetic. Is that safe for the motor to switch over to synthetic like that?
The Napa brand Synthetic oil is made by Valvoline. I have been getting it for 3 something a quart which is perty reasonable for synthetic oil.
I do not believe that penzoil still runs the old formula that gummed up so many motors years ago, however I would not use it. I had taken apart some penzoil motors in the past, of course their is no way to know the frequency of the oil change but the amount of gummy build up from penzoil is astounding when you see a bad case of it.
Yeah this is the first time I've ran Penzoil in this truck. I ran it in my last 2 trucks and usually after 2,800 miles it starts to get kinda thick and clumpy which is why I want to change to something else. I've been told Valvoline and Castrol GTX are both pretty good oil so I might just try that. I always stick with a Motorcraft filter too.
