Well I bought a hp D30 tonight to swap out my lp D30. My probleb is that I have to pull the 4.56 gears out of the lp to put in the HP, is this going to be a hard job? I plan on putting all new seals in it, is there antything else I should do to it while I'm at it? Thanks for the help.
Because I got a great deal on it and it's stronger then what I have. Also the one on the tj right now has a beat up bent LCA bracket.
Plus the yoke on the one I have bounces all around because something is warn out in it.
I also picked up another lp d30 so I'll probley put that in there for now untill I can get some gears for the hp axle...
I might not need it now but the way I'm wheeling it won't be long before I do.
If nothing else it help get the driveshaft out of the rocks, and it is stronger. If the lp needs work it won't cost much more to get the hp set up. Keep your eye out on the jeep boards for a used set of 4.56's
Ok so I now have 4.56 gears coming for this hp D30. I opened it up and from what I can tell it has 3.55 gears in it. What I need to know is do I need to buy any more parts like a different carrier or will the gears work with what I have. Thanks.
thought you all ready had a carrier with 4.56 gears just needed the gears for a high pinion just swap the gears but use the low pinion carrier...others correct me if I am wrong
I'm not going to try and talk you out of anything, but I have been working on my own stuff for many years, and gears are the one thing I always take to a shop because its very difficult to do them right, and quite costly if you do them wrong.
I hear ya. But I don't have much into this so if I fuck it up it really won't be that costly. I'm going to take my time and not rush anything. The yukon directions say a novice can do it...
Well this might be a little more complicated then I thought....But I'll figure it out. The booklet tells me what needs to be done but not how to do it. Does this axle have shims or a crush sleeve? I can't find shims anywhere.
Ya I figured out what the shims are after a couple hours of looking on line. I wish I could find a step by step tutorial, that would make it alot easier.
I looked at the yukon installation guide and its pretty much step by step. Like most things involving gears, it assumes you kinda know what you are doing. (Same with locker installation guides)
How do I meassure pinion depth? From what I understand you get your depth from meassuring from centerline of the ring gear to pinion face. What I want to know is how do I do this without the ring gear in there?
Which means new gears, new carrier, new bearings, possibly new axle shafts, possible new differential, and depending what speed you are going, if it locks up completely, possibly new transfer case and transmission. But yet, thats not much into it.
