the 3" straps at harbor frieght are only a single layer strap so they are not very strong.

You do have to be careful in all situations, I had my jeep stuck so bad on memorial day that the tow hook welded to my frame(by a certified welder from the mine not just a hack job) ripped out of my frame (took the frame around it) and went into the tailgate of a 3/4 ton ford, fortunetly it only dented the gate and put a small hole in it.

The pin type clevises should deffinetly be stayed away from I did have one bend on me and rip the cotter pin off.

Not sure if it's in the other post but in case someone dosen't read it ALWAYS throw a coat, floor mat towel, tow strap on to a winch cable when winching now matter how light the pull. This will help make the cable fall to the ground if it breaks rather than whip back in the air.
