Personally, I WILL NOT use a tow strap with a hook at all. Much like that image posted it makes a much more powerful projectile.

When I was pulling the Blazer out and broke the factory tow hook on the front of the Blazer, the tow strap slapped the back (tailgate) of the Tahoe. It left a good sized dent. I am sure that if there was a hook on the end (regardless of how it was facing) it would have gone through at least 1 plate of metal.

I also will not pull anyone out if there are a bunch of rubberneckers withing 100 feet of the vehicles. I never did find the other half of the factory tow hook. I am just glad it wasnt found in a body near the extraction point.
