Yea, brakes are relatively easy. There's tiny tips and tricks to get more life out of them, but not a big deal. Just make sure to keep the anti-rattle clips on the brake pad tabs, or they might clip into the caliper. Check the caliper slides (the pins) and make sure they're greased up. You probably won't have to bleed the system.
Hopefully he hasn't ground the wear tabs into the rotor so far that they're beyond the point of being turned. If so, it's his problem since he'll be dropping the $$$ on new rotors.
