From 80-96 1/2 ton truck had either the 9" early years 80-86ish, and from ther on it was the 8.8 until 96
97+ was 8.8 with the 6cly,and 4.6l (9.75 maybe w/offroad package not sure), 9.75 was used in the 5.4 trucks
the 9.75 axle was a brand new axle. I watched them install the line, I work at the Ford Axle plant

Ford did not make a 9.75 axle prior to 96
Ford car rear axle's were
7.5"
8.5"
8.8"
8"
9"
Truck axles
7.5"
8.8"
9"
9.75"
10.25"
10.5"
And now some IRS's not sure on the size.
Now I am not sure what they used as of non ford axles, like Dana or something else
Every Ford Rear axle came out of this plant.

As for the Van axles I know the 8.8 is wider than the truck version but not sure on the rest.
