Default Where Is This Knock Coming From?!

Got a 94 Explorer with the 4.0L that's been knocking for quite a while. I've narrowed the knocking down to the bottom of the block. I used a piece of rubber hose to listen, and it's really loud where the starter goes into the bellhousing. There's no shavings in the oil, so I don't think it's a bearing. I've driven the truck like this all summer, so if it's serious, it would have blown by now. I've put 10000 miles on the knock. People think the truck is a diesel by the sound.
Can a cracked flywheel cause it? I know on Chevy's it can. Any other ideas? It seems to center aound the driver's side at the bottom of the engine. It also spark knocks a lot when I get on it. I'm going to try to pull the motor next week unless I can fix it in the truck.
