Thats the ticket. This will also get the check engine light to flash too so you can count the flashes. I don't know why the instructions don't mention anything about watching the CES light on the dash. The '94 Tempo I just sold has the same code test and the CES light flashed along with the meter needle sweeps.
It can be tricky trying to count the sweeps of a meter. FYI, the meter sweeps don't go the full distance of the meters guage. The first sweep goes all the way, then the needle stays in the upper range and bounces with the pulses.
