I've heard that, but then, I've wheeled for years with Dave in the Mud Shark. Dave's running 3.15 T-case gears, 4.11 axle gears, TH350 with 33" tires..

That would put his gearing almost the same in low range as a Rubi, and his Jeep is one of the most capable I've seen (well, I think Dave is a big part of that...).

Without a lockup converter, I believe him to be pushing about 3000 rpm in 3rd low, which I figure a 4 cyl would handle 3200 as good as a 258 running 3000 rpm...
