I have a 75 D44 in my CJ that I am replacing all seals and bearings on....well during the disassembly process this is what I found:
On the DS there was an outer seal, open bearing and an inner seal
On the PS there was an outer seal, sealed bearing and no inner seal.
From what I read in my chiltons, if there are inner seals replace them, and if there are not, then dont because the bearing gets lubed from the diff fluid. well then why on earth would the sealed bearing not have a seal? I figure somewhere along the way somebody replaced the PS bearing with a sealed bearing.....
went to Napa to buy the parts (before disassembly) and their books called for a outer seal, open bearing and inner seal for each side..
what should I do? replace with the open bearings and inner and outer seals, or leave out the inner seals so that the open bearings can get lube from the diff?
I appreciate all help.
