I smeared Grease all over my oil pan every time I changed the oil to keep it from rusting, we used to do that with a lot of our heavy equipment years ago when I helped to maintain a fleet of trucks at a construction company to prevent the pans from rusting. We'd paint them and then smear wheel bearing grease all over them.
I'm not sure yet it's something I have been curious about though since I know it's a weak link on these trucks among other things. It is due for an oil change pretty soon so I'll check it out at that point.

If it isn't the oil pan I will get some por 15 and start using your method
