The power delivery is a lot smoother, I've found, with a belt over a chain. It also doesn't require really any adjustment or lubrication, keeping things cleaner.

Shaft drive is ok too, definitely less regular maintenance then a chain drive, but does require periodic lubrication and from what I've read, loses more power in transfer with comparison to a belt or chain.

The only cons to the belt drive I can think of are the expense and not being good in offroad situations due to the possibility of debris getting lodged in between the sprocket and belt.
