The reason places need the piece of paper that says you are qualified is you are asking for 16+ an hour. There are plenty of jobs out there that will hire an intelligent, unskilled person that is willing to learn. Start at the bottom of the ladder and move your way up like a lot of us had to do. You can't expect good money if you only have basic skill.
