I have been in heat treating facilities where there are entire departments dedicated to straightening shafts.
I have seriously considered straightening it out. But all those factors are unknown to me. Instead of taking that chance I thought simply skimming the face would be a safe alternative. The area bent is probably between the induction hardened bearing surface and the flange. The material properties change in this short area. Since I don't have easy access to to the manufacturing and heat treating facilities, I've decided it would not be a good idea for me to try to straighten it.
