It should defintitely show oil on the dipstick assuming you have the correct one in there.
Pull the distributor and prime it that way before firing it, always a good idea if it hasn't been run in a while or a fresh rebuild.
That's the plan for the weekend. Since I got the engine "used" I was worried that the dipstick may be wrong, but if I see the oil show on the dipstick with another quart then I'll assume I'm good to go.
