Either way it should have been under warranty. Even if he switched sizes and part numbers. I deal with Tenneco(Walker, Dynomax etc.) and if the muffler comes with a lifetime warranty (not all their part number do) then they will warranty it even if they put a different part number on it. As far a size goes that shouldn't matter. Do you know what part number was originally on it or the one he put on it? The higher the first 2 digits in the number the better the muffler. For example a 18216 will be louder than 21046 muffler.
