Lack of technology killed the electric car.

GM took a better shot at it than anyone else. Range was a big problem. Sure, maybe with new technology they could have gotten it up to 300 miles but that only tells part of the story. The other part is how long does it take to recharge. My jeep struggles to go 300 miles on a tank, but it's not a problem because I just stop at a gas station in 10 minutes it's all filled up and ready to go another 300 miles. Most electric batterys take much longer to charge.

Another thing to think about is whether the power grid can handle it. Remember the shortages in California a few years ago? How much worse would of it been if in addition to people turning on thier air contitioners when they got home from work if they had to plug thier cars in to recharge as well?
