Organic vs. synthetic: regarding nutrients, a plant has no idea if nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, etc. is from an organic source or not. The elemental qualities as used by the plant makes it totally irrelevant from the plants point of view.
The idea of sustainablility is much more important then the idea of being organic. What is the most sustainable resource for each plant nutrient? For example: Bat guano is an excellent source of organic nitrogen. But, it is a terrible source of nitrogen from a sustainability standpoint.
It's much more appropriate to buy local and buy in season.
