Another vote for a savage 93. Uses same magazines as the 93 .22 mag, and mine was stupid accurate. Laminated stock, 21ish inch bull barrel, cheapo scope, no accutrigger. bought it years ago for under 200 bucks.
New ones have been recently advertised for in the 200-250 range. Within the past two months recent, either dunham's or gander mountain. Gander's online site says instock no scope for 250 bucks, regular priced.
Lots of guys don't like the composite stocks base savages come with. several I have shot have been filled with sand and epoxied down to give the rifle better balance. Yes, you have to dig the expando foam out, but IMO it was totally worth it.
Semi-autos were short lived in this caliber because of accidental discharge and poor feeding due to the cartridge shape, if i remember correctly.
