A bigger tire will just get you further into the trail before you're stuck. Our last trip I was the 2nd smallest tire on 40s and I was still hanging up trying to follow the 44s, 43s, and 42s. Decide what you want to do and build/size appropriately.

A d30 with the caps tacked in place will handle a hell of a lot more than people think they will.
