Reading labels and making smart choices is the way to go. That's really the only way to be sure what you're eating.
I haven't done a show in a couple years now due to surgery, but I am getting back to it. I will be honest though, there are plenty of days I consider doing it like you are. At the end of the day that is a healthier and easier lifestyle.
I dunno if it's easier, I puke a lot more after workouts now than I ever did when I just went to the gym and tried to look good
I know what you are saying though, the kitchen side of it is way easier.
