An average well requires between 1.2 and 3.5 million US gallons and depending on how many times you fractionate the well it could be in the range of 3 to 8 million US gallons over the wells lifetime. It does pose a problem if your in a heavy drought area. I don't believe recovering the water from the frac or flowback well is a option. 30-70 percent of the water introduced flows back from the frac. It cant be sent to a water treatment or reused for another frac but because of the demand of water is so large no facility clarifier can process that much water.
