I guess I don't see how it went from this "my main reliable person" to trying real hard to get him fired. There may be more to the story but from what I see here maybe just a warning would be all that's needed. If he is so reliable why would you be so eager to can him for something you can't prove ? Granted he shouldn't be drinking on the job but maybe there were some extenuating circumstances that caused him to do so that night. Sounds to me like he's not a total drunk if he's your main reliable person.
