My batteries finally went bad so I converted it to Li-ion. You pretty much have to have the Li-ion batteries for the impact.

I have the 4 place battery maintainer that way they are always charged. It charges them, shuts down and checks them every 5 days to see if they need charged.
I have also been very happy with my Craftsman Impact, and drill. I bought the C3 line with Li-ion batteries. I use them quite often. I have had them just over a year with no problems at all.
