Figure out what you are going to do with the vehicle and what your budget is. More power is always nice but you end up paying for it one way or another, either fuel milage or broken parts. If you have the adapters for a 302 they are cheap & simple to work on. A properly set up 4Runner with a 22RE should get you anywhere you need to go reliably & economically. My V8 powered Broncos pretty much sit in the garage cause I can just throw the battery in my 4Runner, fill it up drive it to the Mounds, wheel all day then drive it home and still have fuel left.
