Some of you may have seen this posted over in Pirate4x4. As I am a Great Lakes native I wanted to spread it over here to try and raise more awareness for our cause.
My name is Chris Coughlin. I have been an avid off-roader and "Jeep Guy" since I restored my first CJ-7 at 15 years old. I'm a native of Northern Lower MI (Traverse City), currently stuck in the Milwaukee Area until I can get back up to the UP. In the last 6 years, I have dived headfirst into all sorts of off-road racing, dabbling in Rally Co-driving, Shortcourse, and finally TREC / Ultra4. Needless to say, Ultra4 style racing has really swayed me away from Rally and Shortcourse!
In February I was diagnosed with a rare form of testicular cancer that had formed a malignant tumor in my chest (only 500 cases in the world per year!). My chances of survival were initially less than 30%. Pretty tough to hear when you are only 26 years old! Testicular Cancer is the #1 cancer among men ages 15 to 35 which is something I did not know when I was diagnosed. I never even thought it possible that I would get cancer.
A couple weeks ago, after 3 months of brutal Chemotherapy, they pulled a 6" tumor out of my chest (along with part of my lung and heart sack) and declared me cancer free!
The only reason I am alive today is because of the research of a doctor in Indianapolis, who along with curing Lance Armstrong, has found a way to cure more than 80% of testicular cancer patients! With a little more research, we want that number to be 100% CURED! (20 years ago, the cure rate was less than 5%!)
For 2013, we are going to attempt to race all of the midwest Ultra4 / Dirt Riot / TREC (Maybe KOH??) race series.
My wife (of less than a year) and myself (along with my Crew Chief Clay Hendricks) will be RACING FOR A CURE
in a Ultra4 Modified TJ. We are scraping together parts and trading for parts to transform the stock TJ into a winning race Jeep
All race winnings, monetary donations, and raffle proceeds from sponsor products will be donated to Cancer Research to help prevent, and cure testicular cancer! It is our teams' dream to help raise awareness of cancer in the off-road community and at the same time, help fund cancer research.
We are currently selling shirts and hats to raise money for cancer research and have already raised over $1000 in a few short months! Additionally, we are traveling to non-race events to display the race vehicles and raise awareness for our sponsors and testicular cancer.
What the foundation needs:
I am reaching out to the GL4x4 community for help in making the Modified TJ be as competitive as possible and donate as much money to fund cancer research as we can raise! In order to get the truck ready for the next season (and be competitive), we are in need of some parts that I am hoping we can get donated to the foundation so that we may donate even more money to cancer research!
Parts we NEED:
-Shocks! - 12"-14" travel - 2.0/2.5 coil overs. Only need one more pair of Coilovers, 12-14" travel!

-Special mention on Facebook (www.facebook.com/13motorsportsracing
-Their name/company name/logo on the race vehicle.
-Special mention when we make donations to the cancer center.
We have had a couple sponsors jump onboard to help out so far:
- donating products for us to raffle off at the TREC races as well as products for the race vehicle. Hooked us up with some of their brand new HID driving and flood lights!
-Jim Coughlin P.E. LLC Consulting

I am reaching out to the offroad community here and am grateful for any help we can get! With your help, we can raise money to help prevent and cure cancer! I don't want to see anyone else in the off-road community (or any community!) diagnosed with testicular cancer. It is a "young man's" disease as the doctors call it, mainly affecting those aged 15 - 35. It is a brutal disease and even though it is curable, it requires early detection!
The more aware men are, hopefully the sooner they might find something abnormal and ask their doctor.
With the massive growth in popularity in interest in off-roading in the demographic, we want to promote awareness and help PREVENT testicular cancer, not just cure it!
We will be starting a build thread shortly (when the doc tells me I can start lifting more than 5 lbs!) so that all may follow the progress as we RACE FOR A CURE!
Thats me on the left just before one of my Chemo Treatments.
