The red piece that goes around the axle shaft you speak of is nothing but the caliper bracket. The second pic I posted is what you most likely need.
At the top and bottom of the caliper are those pieces of metal that have two flats to them and rubber between them. Drive them out with a punch and hammer. Caliper will come off. You appear to have a 86-94 front D60 from what I can tell from the pics.

However the calipers dont stretch that year span, 89-94 and 86-88 are different part numbers
i realized that while at work yesterday, thankfully i work at o'reilly auto parts so i picked up a set of 93 1 ton calipers. got them on today and bled. trucks back on the road :)
