Legally, you are still married (after the proper paperwork).
I would say the term 'marriage' is now recognized more as the act of a legal union than a religious ceremony. Plenty of people get married that have never set foot in a church. I'm not sure why it would become a problem when all of a sudden when some fairies want to use the term when people have been using that term without attaching any religious affiliation to it for quite a while.
