I'm sure if you never went over 3,000 rpm and changed the oil ever week it would be fine.
My room mate in college had a 4 runner with the 3.0 (an engine i recall being told to avoid) with well over 200,000 miles on it. It had no more power then my 22re, but it ran forever.
The 3.0 was one of those motors where you either got a good one that lasted forever or you got one that died almost instantly. The ones I have had have been great....they are gutless but reliable as can be.
The best motors I have ever owned have been the two 3.4's in my tacomas...both had 200k, both had good power, didnt use oil, ect ,ect and I was not easy on either....i will be replacing my 22re with one.
