hey guys i just wanted to give everyone my 2 cents on ORI struts since i have been running them on my yj. my yj is a cookie cutter one ton set up with the following specs
3 link front
4 link rear
14" ORI struts
rock jock front
dana 70U rear
fully plated with body armor
its a pretty heavy wheeler. i had previously ran 14" fox 2.0 non res with no sway bars and no bumps. did ok crawling but pretty much sucked everywhere else. so instead of buying bumps and sway bars i just sold them and bought 14" ori struts. STX model. they are a little shorter than a regular 14" coilover so i had to cut off all my mounts and redo everything. also the struts are wider where they mount so plan on cutting your stuff off too...
my first trip on them was this weekend down to rocks and valleys and i loved them! super stable everywhere, even on some crazy off camber hill climbs. flexed just as good as my coilovers just not as much body roll. ripped down some nasty two tracks and couldnt complain a bit. the small bumps they just soaked right up, even caught some air and they handled it well. i can now rip down the road at 60 mph no problem. before it was getting kind of scary with body roll.
they are super easy to set up as for right height and damping adjustment. there are two schrader valves on the shock. bottom one is for damping and top one is for ride height. only takes a minute to set up for different types of ripping. no need for special valving, or shock oils.
i am currently running 120 psi in the rear for damping (bottom valve) and 165 psi in the front.
i am running 275 in the rear for ride height (top valve) and 300 psi in the front. both have around 5.5" of shaft showing
here are some shots with my coilovers
here is with the struts
this is how i tied my rears in. they used to have a hoop in the rear outside of the tub.
