You need to try to figure out the blade speed(doing math based on motor rpm, and the gear/belt reduction to figure out the drive whee rpm, and diameter to figure feet per minute). Usually, a wood band saw uses a much higher blade speed than a metal saw. One of the magazines, car craft or hot rod did a article or two about converting them, but in general, its probably too fast.
