Default 255/85r16 tires on a suburban

One tire dealer said these tires "definately" will not fit on a 1998 3/4 ton 4x4 diesel suburban...

I'm sure I've seen guys fit 285's on trucks before and the 255's are narrower.

The stock tires are 245/75r16's and just look small, not to mention whoever I bought it from put load range "c" tires...they are wearing out very quickly.

I've considered 235/85r16's and 265/75r16's...which tire would look best and go best with my diesel with 4.10 gears?

I really want the tall skinny look of the 255, but everyone around has to special order them. Anyone have these tires on that era Chevy or GMC truck to prove that it can't be done?

Or maybe does someone have a set that I can bolt on my truck and drive around the block to see how they work.
