The oil dripper allows you to burn waste oil. When the fire gets nice and toasty you can start adding so oil to it for extra heat. You have to check it on occasion because if too much oil is being added, some will not burn and it will flood the ash pan and drip out the front of the furnace. I've done that one a number of times.
