Default Explorer Steering column help!

Hey guys. Wondering if anyone has any input on my problem. The steering is "loose" on my lifted Explorer Sport (2000 lift with 3 inch body and 5 inch suspension). Let me tell you that I put in a new rack last year, along with new tie rods (inner and outer), new ball joints (upper and lower) so basically the front end is all rebuilt. I did this because it was all worn out, not because the steering was loose (which it was). This did help, but I have a lot of play in the wheel still. While turning the wheel from side to side (taking up the slack), what I can see is the steering rod, as it goes thru the firewall, moves quite a bit side to side. Is there some sort of bushing at the firewall that can wear? I see the rubber boot, but to save my life I don't get it. Hopefully someone has run into this before and knows my problem (besides the fact I am a total idiot).

Thanks for the input guys!
