Default Class of hitch

Back in august I bought a 99 GMC Sierra. When I bought it i didn't realize that it was the p.o. has put a hitch on it from a suburban ( thats what the truck place told me). It doesn't have the bumper bolts (for lack of better description) that the hitch bolts to the bumper via a V shaped bracket. If you have seen a 1/2 ton GM truck, you'd know what I mean. I'm not confident in loading my jeep up on a trailer and pull it with the truck with the hitch that is on the truck.
What I am wondering, is what class hitch have others put on 1/2 ton trucks? Heres some quick numbers.

Class III
600 Pound Tongue Weight
6000 Pound Towing
Class IV
1000 Pound Tongue Weight
10000 Pound Towing
Class IV/V
1200 Pound Tongue Weight
12000 Pound Towing
Class V
1500 Pound Tongue Weight
15000 Pound Towing

Initial thought is go big or go home... Class V, but I am also trying to be economically conscious also. Realistically the heaviest thing I am going to put on it that I can think of is most likely my jeep, and it is only a 1/2 ton with a 5.3 and 4:10 gears.
In bed, according to prophesy.
